It meant something special to me as both my parents were Navy veterans of that war: my mother a pharmacist, my father a Navy corpsman with the Marines [and landed on Iwn Jima with them]. Later on I went to fight my own war with the Army: Desert Shield and Desert Storm. My mother did not live to see me off to war. My father did. And was there for my return. Becasue of that, we shared things on a level very few fathers and daughters have. And some of his last words to me were "Your mother would have been proud.
